Class Overview

This course is ideal for absolute beginners or those who want to refresh their collage skills. It focuses on learning the fundamentals of collage, including material selection, layering, mark-making, and finishing touches. Learn to choose materials that work together, and tips for handling mistakes — such as collaging over errors.

What You’ll Learn

• Gathering and selecting materials: How to sort and choose found paper, ephemera, and decorative elements.
• Building layers: Creating a base layer with found paper, finishing it, and beginning mark-making.
• Finishing touches: Adding text, and other decorative elements.
• Burnishing and smoothing for a polished look.

• canvas (base)
• Gel medium
• Glue stick, scissors, heat gun (optional)
• Found paper and ephemera
• Photocopies of clip art or found images
• Brushes
• Acrylic paints
