Still Life Oil Painting with Vivian Leung
Saturday, January 31 from 11AM-2:30PM at the Center
Class Fee: $80
LESSON CONTENT: Learn the basics of color theory and how to apply them with oil paint! In my previous workshops, I taught values. This class assumes you have a decent understanding of values and ability to draw. In this workshop, we will learn about cool vs warm colors, how to paint traditionally, and how to mix colors. There will be a small lecture at the beginning to talk about the color wheel, and commonly used oil painting colors. We will briefly discuss lighting scenarios that produce warm vs cool shadows or lights. Then we will have a still life set up in the middle of the room that is Fall themed.
Please bring your own lunch or snacks, we will have break time around 12:30pm.
Materials: Instructor will supply some materials: all oil paint and mediums, including mineral spirit (paint thinner) and linseed oil. Canvases will also be provided.
Students please bring your own brushes. Any brush made for mixed media (oil, acrylic, gouche) should be sufficient. For the shape of the brush, Flat brushes are the most preferred. Filbert brushes are acceptable. Round brushes can work but are not preferred especially if you are a beginner.
Ideally, I would like each student to bring 2 brushes: a bigger one about the width of your thumb (1.5 – 2 cm or .5 – 1 inch) and a smaller one about the width of your pinky (.5 cm or .25 inch)
About the Instructor: Born and raised in Elk Grove, Vivian went to San Jose State University for an engineering degree and shortly after graduating in 2019, began training at the ArtHub Academy in Saratoga under Jose Luis Andrade Leon. Her main focus was developing strong traditional fundamentals and additionally experimenting with digital art forms in 2d and 3d software. After a few years of study, she became a teacher herself at ArtHub in 2023, guiding children, teens, and adults to help them improve their drawing and painting skills.
