Dale Chilcoat Retrospective – May 2025
A Retrospective of an Artist’s Journey

ARTIST STATEMENT
“Exploring different media has always been a turn on for me. My style and process change with medium and frame of mind. At 86 years, maybe I am still trying to find myself. Most of my professional career has been in public school arts education.
I have taught at both the high school and university level. High school was especially fun and rewarding. I have an undergraduate degree from Arizona State University and have done graduate work in New York, California and Italy.
I had a fantastic time studying art history at the University of Florence, Italy. I have participated in shows and competitions from coast to coast and was listed in Marquis Who’s Who in America 1998. Who’s Who in the West 1996-1997, and best of all Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers 2000.
A highlight of my career was developing a friendship with Frank Lloyd Wright. After he bought one of my works, he said, Dale go to New York. And I did for 10 wonderful creative years. Columbia University sent me to Europe to study and I had a great time in Rome helping to clean Michelangelo’s painting on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Studying art in Florence was wonderful.
I have work represented in public and private collections from coast to coast. I have a wonderful wife, Sharon and 2 fantastic children, Jennifer and Josua. Hope you enjoy this retrospective of an Artist’s Journey.”
