The Elk Grove Fine Arts Center is currently hiring for the following position:

Position Summary

The Executive Director is the heartbeat of our daily operations. We are looking for a visionary leader who is as comfortable managing a budget as they are hanging an exhibition. You will be responsible for the artistic direction, operational management, and community engagement of the Center, ensuring we remain a vibrant hub for local artists and art lovers alike.

Key Responsibilities

1. Exhibition & Curatorial Management

  • Develop and execute an annual calendar of exhibitions, including themed shows, solo artist spotlights, paid pop-up exhibitions, community art displays, and art competitions.
  • In partnership with the Board, oversee the intake, curation, and installation of artwork, ensuring high professional standards.
  • Manage the “Call for Artists” process and coordinate with jurors or guest curators.

2. Operations & Administration

  • Manage day-to-day gallery operations, including facility maintenance, supplies, and point-of-sale systems.
  • Supervise and schedule gallery staff and/or volunteers to ensure consistent coverage.
  • Report regularly to the Board of Directors on gallery performance, attendance, and operational needs.
  • Collaborate with the Workshop Chair and Marketing Chair to schedule, track, promote and present a regular series of educational workshops at all skill levels for adults.

3. Financial Management & Sales

  • Oversee art sales, including processing payments, tracking commissions, and coordinating with artists for payout.
  • Assist the Board in developing the annual budget and identifying new revenue streams (e.g., grants, sponsorships, or workshops).
  • Maintain accurate records of gallery inventory and sales reports.
  • Tracking and ensuring the timely payment of Gallery Artist monthly fees

4. Marketing, Community Outreach and Events

  • Organize, plan, budget, and run the Center’s signature annual event, the Elk Grove Festival of the Arts including vendor solicitation, rentals and supplies, and partnering with the Board of Directors to obtain sponsor funding and/or event grants
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Chair to promote exhibitions and special events via social media, newsletters, printed materials and press.
  • Collaborate with the Gallery Artist Chair to review, select, and onboard new Gallery Artists including defining new artist contracts and training.
  • Act as the “face” of the Center, building relationships with artists, patrons, local businesses, and community organizations.
  • Organize and host monthly receptions (e.g., First Saturday receptions, annual donor reception, artist talks and lectures) and special gallery functions.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: Two (2) or more years in gallery management, arts administration, or a related field.
  • Artistic Eye: A deep understanding of visual arts and professional exhibition standards.
  • Tech Savvy: Proficiency with POS systems (Square), social media platforms, and basic office software (Google Workspace/Office 365). Understanding of project management processes is beneficial.
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to connect with diverse groups of artists and donors. Ability to professionally communicate with Board of Directors, Gallery Artists, Donors and Supporters, Center guests, business and community partners and the public.
  • Organization: Proven ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects, from logistical planning to creative execution. Proven ability to manage one’s own time and tasks with minimal supervision.

Work Environment

  • Requires additional evenings/weekends as needed for special events and gallery receptions. Current Gallery hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays 11AM-5PM which may be subject to change in the future.
  • Physical ability to assist with the installation of art (ex. lifting up to 25 lbs., use of ladders and associated art hanging equipment).
