FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EXPRESSIONS IN PLEIN AIR – SEPTEMBER 7-26, 2024

Elk Grove, August 1, 2024 – The Elk Grove Fine Arts Center will present Expressions in Plein Air competition show September 7-26, 2024. The exhibition will open with a First Saturday Public Reception on September 7, 2024 from 4-7PM, and an awards presentation starting at 5:30PM.

“In this new competition show at the Center, we asked artists to leave the four walls of their studio behind and experience painting and drawing in the landscape. The practice goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists. Freeing themselves from the boundaries of a studio allows our participating artists to see the world differently – and to tell interesting stories to viewers and collectors of their work.”

Expressions in Plein Air is judged by local artist Marilyn Eger. “Because I have a strong connection to the land and come from a long tradition of farming, I am primarily a plein air painter. When capturing a specific scene on-site is not possible, I work from my own photos as a point of departure. My paintings are inspired by my love of the area I live in and the things around me, such as the Acampo landscape, old tractors and cars, curious cattle, and old homesteads. I believe they bring me back to the earth.”
