Time: 10:30am to 3:30pm
Fabric kits are available for $25.00 paid to instructor on the day of workshop.
My technique is raw edge applique with an unconventional method of cutting fabric with pinking shears and building layer upon layer of fabric (paint) that produces the depth and realism seen in oil paintings.
This technique is unique because it integrates the multi-dimensional quality of oil painting into the realm of quilt making. In this Class, quilters be asked to use their imagination and their creative process to develop a “one of a kind” fabric painting.
The instructor will assist the quilter in developing an aesthetically pleasing compositional layout using perspective, depth, focal point, mood and lighting. You will complete the top layer of your fabric painting.
Choose a scene: from photograph, magazine, books or your imagination.
Fabrics: landscape, textured, nature, background, mood or purchase kits from instructor.
Thread and Needles: good brand of invisible thread, machine embroidery threads of all color and specialty threads.
Shears: pinking shears, scissors, rotary cutter
Other supplies: spray adhesive or fabric glue, reducing glass or lenses of a camera, design wall, newspaper for spraying on
About the Instructor
Katie became interested in quilting simply by walking into a quilting shop! She was so impressed with the craft that she took every class the shop offered. Now Katie spends hours quilting masterpieces that have won many awards in regional and national quilt shows.
Katie received her B.A. in art from the University of California and has since developed a copyrighted technique of painting landscapes with fabric. She has received the honor of having her landscape wall hangings shown at the prestigious American Quilter’s Society quilt show in Paducah, Kentucky.
Fifteen of Katie’s quilts will be on display in “Through the Quilter’s Eye” exhibit. Learn more at katiesartquilts.com.
