ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Hands-on techniques: Using encaustic with collage, watercolor & other media, working under, within and on top of the encaustic layers, embedding 3D objects, and mark-making & image transfer techniques

Student will leave the workshop with: Four finished projects, comprehensive resource list, other written material, and confidence to move ahead in this fabulous medium.

MATERIALS TO BRING

Instructor provides most materials (panels, boards, encaustic medium, pigments, heat guns, tools, written items). Please review the suggested materials list for items you should bring which will help your experience.

  • Pen or pencil – if you’d like to take notes
  • Small scissors
  • Small Matt Medium (my preference) or Modge Podge to use as an adhesive
  • Small 4 oz. container for water
  • Small inexpensive brush – ½” is fine
  • Apron – if you’re messy like me
  • Ephemera (this is optional, but it really makes your work more personal).
    • Any kind of small doo-dah you would like to try including in your art piece.
    • Inexpensive, thin papers (old dictionary pages, vintage children’s books, sheet music, maps, diagrams, etc.)  Not cardstock or glossy magazine pages
    • Light fabric, netting, lace, decorative paper napkins, etc.
    • Ink jet copies of photos – black/white or color (not original photos)

We’ll be working in a 4” x 4” to 8” x 8” format, so you can plan your images accordingly.
