FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BIG ART AND DWIGHT HEAD – AUGUST 5-24, 2023

Elk Grove, July 1, 2023 – The Elk Grove Fine Arts Center presents BIG Art at EGFAC, and Draw a Rumor by Dwight Head, August 5-24, 2023. The Center will open for a First Saturday Public Reception on August 5 from 4-7PM.

Returning for a second year at the Center, BIG Art at EGFAC fills the walls of the main gallery with oversized landscapes, still life, and figurative paintings. Artists are asked to stretch themselves and their canvases to create work suitable as statement pieces on large walls in homes, offices, and major collections.

In the Foyer Gallery, Dwight Head presents Draw a Rumor, a collection of figurative surreal paintings.

As a surrealist artist and an illustrator, I speak visually using self-reflective images and symbols.  I contemporize these images and symbols which are rooted in my everyday life as an artist.  My final products are varied as I draw and paint that which is deep within as a human being interested in teaching myself and others. – Dwight Head

Many artists create art using a flame or heat. Some of this art takes the form of ceramics and sculpture that bathe in fire to create shapes and glazes. Other artwork uses elements of heat to melt the wax of encaustics. This exhibition celebrates artists who use primal forces to create unique artwork in all mediums.

Fired Art is curated and judged by Freddy Santana, a Sacramento regional ceramic artist and educator.

Wide Open Spaces and John Angell – JUNE 2023

Heath Buckmaster
Marketing Director, Elk Grove Fine Arts Center
(916) 806-1507 – marketing@egfac.org

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WIDE OPEN SPACES AND JOHN ANGELL – JUNE 3-22, 2023

Elk Grove, May 1, 2023 – The Elk Grove Fine Arts Center presents Wide Open Spaces, an art competition, and Waterworks by John Angell in the Foyer Gallery June 3-22, 2023. The Center will open for a First Saturday Public Reception and Awards Presentation on June 3 from 4-7PM.

The Center brings back our annual tradition of celebrating nature in Wide Open Spaces, an art competition show. Nature and outdoors have inspired countless people, provoking deep thought, strong friendships, and a rooted bond with earth. Revisit or discover your love of nature. The human spirit needs nature, and in every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.

John Angell presents Waterworks, a series of photographic encaustic work in the Foyer Gallery in June. Water unites us and divides us; it both gives and takes life. It can be calm or ferocious and bring bounty or devastation. Water is essential to life. Waterworks blends my photographic images taken over the past several decades with my more recently found love of the encaustic wax process. Encaustic has a warmth, depth, fluidity and luster that only the wax can bring. Each piece is unique, one-of-a-kind, blurring the lines between painting and photography with strong textural elements.
